YOUTH POWER HACKS – IT’S A WRAP!

Almost a year ago, the Youth Power Panel teamed up with Restless Development, Project Everyone and Unilever to call upon young people to innovate and collaborate for the Global Goals.

The reason?

The Youth Power Hacks.

The Youth Power Hacks have allowed young people to determine their own paths while tackling the biggest problems of today; and supported individuals and teams through skill-building and empowering them to make a difference.

The process began with over 3,400 passionate individuals from around the world putting their hands up to be a part of six online hackathons – run across Kenya, South Africa, Nigeria, Indonesia, India and the Philippines from February to April 2021.

374 inspiring young people joined the Youth Power Hacks as participants, and 46 youth-led solutions inspired by the Global Goals were generated. However, the six hacks were just the beginning; and participants moved on to further grow their ideas that were generated in the months that followed.

Through the hacks and over the course of 2021, young people have been supported to turn their ideas into tangible impact in their communities. Teams have been able to access training, mentoring, seed funding and feedback opportunities via the Youth Power Panel, Project Everyone, Unilever, Restless Development and other partners – which have helped them develop their skills and innovations, and enabled them to lead change on their own terms.

Now that the initiative has officially wrapped-up, we’re excited to introduce you to our four winning Youth Power Hacks teams – each of whom have received £10,000 to take their ideas to the next level!
